Peterborough 2029: Culture in Motion
A city shaped by movement, making, and belonging.
Peterborough is exploring a bid to become UK City of Culture 2029.
This is an early-stage proposal to test the ambition, readiness and opportunity for culture to play a transformative role in the city’s future. The bid is rooted in Peterborough’s unique story as a historic city shaped by migration, making, faith and renewal.
If invited to progress, Peterborough 2029 would bring together communities, artists, organisations and partners to co-create a year-long cultural programme that reflects who we are today and who we want to become.
This website outlines the emerging vision, approach and governance for the Expression of Interest that will be submitted to the UK government's Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport.
Peterborough 2029
A city shaped by movement, making, and belonging, we are ready to celebrate culture in 2029 and beyond.
Our bid recognises Peterborough’s extraordinary cultural energy and its power to create opportunity, confidence and ambition for young people and communities.
UK City of Culture would act as a catalyst for inclusive economic growth, skills development and long-term regeneration across Peterborough.

Peterborough 2029 is a bold opportunity to celebrate creativity, empower communities and inspire the next generation across one of England’s most diverse cities.
