Delivering the Programme

Peterborough City Council is the proposed Accountable Body for the UK City of Culture programme, providing financial assurance, governance and accountability to DCMS. The bid is being supported by the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority and the two MPs representing Peterborough in Parliament.

Delivery would be led by a new, independent organisation, Peterborough 2029, established specifically to develop the bid and, if successful, deliver the programme.

Peterborough 2029 would operate at arm’s length from the Council, combining creative independence with robust public accountability. This model is well established for major cultural programmes.

Full governance arrangements would be developed in line with DCMS guidance.
